We have been doing some fabric manipulation the last week - (photos coming soon) these are some images I was looking at right at the start of the project and they are coming in useful now when thinking about textures and structure of the stomach wall, intestines and esophagus. These are just some stock images from medical research websites. They are really beautiful in themselves and I suppose the challenge with translating them into fabric is that we dont really want the fabric panels to be beautiful as they are going to be an interactive learning tool. We are exploring ways we can create velcro peel away sections where the users of the space can dissect the panels to see different layers and cells. The stomach is the most tricky as it works by using digestive juices and acid. We tried sealing some colored liquid between two sheets of plastic but so far haven't got it to work.
